From Conservative Cut.
Here's the general intent of the bill: "This year’s FY2012 National Defense Authorization Act, has a little section with huge consequences for every single American. This particular section allows for the President (and future Presidents--if we even have elections in 2012) to use all necessary means to detain a "suspect" indefinitely. Senator Carl Levin (D-MI), authored the provision. Although Rand Paul (R-KY) argued in favor of striking the amendment along with Senator Udall (D-CO), the amendment was defeated on a vote of 37-61. In essence the following provision will remain in the bill: Section 1031 – “Congress affirms that the authority of the President to use all necessary and appropriate force…includes the authority for the Armed Forces of the United States to detain covered persons…Detention under the law of war without trial."
Now to define TERRORIST: "Some of the things that make you, yes you, a suspected terrorist according to the Department of Justice are: if you are missing a finger, if you have cash on hand, if you have more than seven days of food stored up, if you have guns and if you have ammunition. In essence, if you have food stored up, guns, ammunition or cash on hand, you can be arrested as a "suspect" and detained "indefinitely!”
...
"So now an American rancher who owns a gun to protect himself from terrorists crossing the border is now going to treated like an Islamic nut job that runs commercial planes into buildings. There is a reason they want to lump us all into one America. Think about it.""
The reason why I'm bringing this up is that I happen to have cash on hand, more than a week's worth of food in my home, I garden, and I have a stocked freezer. There are also guns in the house, but we do have all our fingers. If you find you aren't seeing new posts for quite a long time, it's because I've been detained indefinitely. It's okay--I'll have the company of every coupon queen, frugal living black-belt, Mormon, possibly some Paleo eaters, farmers, ranchers, Mom-and-Pop grocery store owners, butcher shop owners, whole or half cow/produce CSA buyers, homesteaders, canners/dryers, foragers, gardeners, and everybody else who attempted to circumvent food economics as we know it. I won't be hurting for company. In fact, it's a new way to retire in peace and quiet completely on the government's dime!
I just hope there's enough room for us all down in Gitmo. :)
If you're behind in child support payments, underwater on your mortgage, tits up as a large investment bank, owe the IRS, or are wanted in another country, Gitmo may be the perfect hiding spot for you--all you have to do to qualify is lop off a finger, hoard food, stock some guns and ammo, and have a huge hankering to spend the rest of your days (free) in a seaside cell dressed in orange coveralls. No income limits, no means testing of any sort, no degree or equipment or special skills needed, and best of all, NO DRUG TESTING. No worry about bill collectors--they'll never find you there!
Something else (not related to terrorism) that may interest you as a Paleo eater: food trend observers are deeply interested in the sudden fascination with organ meats. I guess they don't realize that organ meats are:
1. Cheap compared to muscle meats
2. More nutritious than muscle meats alone
Fine. I say let 'em revel in their mystery...as I give my liver another turn in the skillet. :)
I will agree that there is deep interest in organ meats--to the point that even I have trouble getting organic, pastured, free-range, or all three-in-one types of organ meats. The demand is so high! This is a good thing, and I've been waiting for it to happen.
