Would you like to do your own DNA diet without having to submit money and genetic tissue to a lab somewhere, possibly even ending up on some marketer's list, or worse--possibly denied health or life insurance (or maybe even a job) because of what turned up?
This is where good ol' epigenetics comes in.
The how-to:
1. Talk to all living relatives for at least three generations back (include brothers, sisters, aunts and uncles of the three generations, if possible). If you can go back further, by all means do so.
2. Make notes of who died when, of what, and what chronic ailments/diseases the living relatives have now, or have been/are being treated for.
3. Assume this list is going to become YOUR list of maladies someday, and start eating to prevent it NOW. Here's a good place to start. If some or all of your family ailments aren't on this list, Google them and find out how to eat to reverse or prevent them.
4. Teach your children this ailment history, why the family is changing dietary habits, why THEY should continue eating this way throughout their lives, and also teach this to THEIR children.
5. Remind EVERYONE (including yourself), especially women, that we're all eating for three: yourself, your pregnancy, and your baby's eggs or sperm. Men can leave out the pregnancy, but know that I'm talking to you as the sperm contributor to that pregnancy.
You may or may not not lose weight using this method, but you will help stamp out diseases in your family that are nutrition-related. Adding exercise to this regimen would probably help you lose weight. It would certainly extend your life, and clean up your family tree in three generations if everyone in the family cooperates.
